A leading local performing arts school is fast gaining a reputation for turning Kent children into stars of the
future. The Showbiz Academy, which has classes in Ashford and Folkestone, takes youngsters from ages
five to sixteen. In the last few months it has seen pupils gain professional roles on stage and TV.
It’s own shows are also proving a great success,
with the latest - ‘Wicked Musicals’ - selling-out
both performances at Gravesend’s Woodville Halls
theatre, and receiving excellent reviews. More
than 120 children took part in the show, which
included songs and scenes from Annie, Evita,
Wicked, West Side Story, Grease, High School
Musical, and Little Shop of Horrors. .
The Showbiz Academy, which celebrates is 10th
anniversary next year, has TV star Paul O’Grady,
and local radio personality Trevor Claringbold, as
its patrons. .
The school is no stranger to success, with many
pupils gaining roles in professional shows, and
TV productions. Among them are Steven Harwood-Brown, who has been filming for the UK version of the
American hit series Law and Order. Viewers will see him on their televisions in February. Another pupil
tipped for a glittering future career is Crisi Peters, who
has just finished playing a leading role as Wendy, in the
Epsom Playhouse Theatre’s pantomime Peter Pan.
The pupils are now back to their regular Saturday
or Wednesday classes after the Christmas break,
and always on the lookout for more of Kent’s
young hopefuls to join them. The next show will
include songs and scenes from Joseph, Mamma Mia, Hairspray, Oliver, & the magical Chitty Chitty Bang Bang,
and any parents who would like their children to take part should contact the Showbiz Academy as soon as
possible. No experience is necessary, although a keen interest is highly desirable! .
