Even though it only has one major town - Sevenoaks itself - this district is simply littered
with interesting places to visit. You can scarcely find a country lane to drive along that
doesn’t have a castle, manor house, stately home, or some other such impressive pile
somewhere along its length.
From the royal connections to Henry VIII at Hever Castle, through Lord De L’Isle’s five
hundred years of family history at Penshurst Place, to the home of one of Britain’s greatest
Prime Mnister’s, Winston Churchill, this is an area with
a fantastic history.
It’s also a particularly attractive area scenically, with
rolling hills, steep escarpments, lakes, and forests. Even
the majority of the smaller towns and villages fit into the
historic appeal perfectly, with picturesque half-timbered
cottages and medieval terraces commonplace on many
high streets.
For more contemporary attractions, aimed at family
visitors, there are farms and animal parks to enjoy. The
area also has some enticing woodland and nature walks,
plus one of the best networks of public footpaths.
But without doubt it’s the breathtaking range of buildings
from centuries past that are open for you to visit in the
Sevenoaks district, that make this one of Kent’s prime
tourist haunt’s. Just check out the list below if you’re in
any doubt!
